St. Andrews Cathedral

St. Andrew's Cathedral

The Cathedral of Saint Andrew was built in the French Gothic architectural style, shipped in several pre-fabricated pieces from England. The western facade has a 50' window of hand-blown stained glass that reaches from the floor to the eaves.

Kamehameha IV and Emma, his queen consort, were devout members of the Church of England led by their good friend Victoria of the United Kingdom. Inspired to build a place of worship in the Anglican tradition, Kamehameha IV commissioned the construction of what would later become the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. However, the king died on the feast day of Saint Andrew in 1863 before ground-breaking. Kamehameha V, the king's brother, took over the project and laid the cornerstone in honor of his predecessor.

Honolulu

'Iolani Palace

The architecture is romantic Italian Renaissance or Italianate style with fluted cast-iron Corinthian columns, decorative brackets and iron railings, mansard-style tower roofs at each corner and at the center of the mauka and makai elevations, window enframements with brackets and pediment crowns, and wide lanais on all sides.

`Iolani Palace was the official residence of the Hawaiian Kingdom's last two monarchs -- King Kalakaua, who built the Palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Lili'uokalani.

King Kalakaua and Queen Kapi'olani lived in the Palace from the time of its completion in 1882 until his death in 1891. His successor, Queen Lili'uokalani, lived in the Palace until the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893.

Ted's Bakery, Yum! IF you still eat Sugar, that is

Ted's Bakery is a Must Eat at place on the North Shore of O'ahu. Ted's is very famous for its Chocolate Haupia Pie -

but there are many other varieties to delight your sugar taste buds as well!

The wonderful chocolate bottom layer is perfect with the creamy coconut (haupia) middle and the whipped cream top. Once you've discovered this pie, you'll crave more. I also love the pumpkin haupia pie.

I live a couple of blocks from Ted's, so when I just must have a piece of pie, I walk over to get it - have to burn a few calories before eating another heavenly bite!
